An African History of Africa

Tickets £10.00

Description

‘Everyone is originally from Africa, and this book is therefore for everyone’

The history of Africa is the story of the origins of human civilisation. But for too long, Africa’s history has been neglected. Dominated by western narratives of slavery and colonialism, its past has been fragmented, overlooked and denied its rightful place in our global story. In this fascinating book – which has taken author Zeinab Badawi seven years of research travelling to thirty countries across Africa – we are guided through Africa’s spectacular history.

Badawi weaves together a fascinating new account of Africa: an epic, sweeping history of the oldest inhabited continent on the planet, told through the voices of Africans themselves, and gives Africa its rightful place in our global story.

Zeinab Badawi is an award-winning broadcaster, journalist, filmmaker and President of SOAS London University. She is a Patron of the United Nations Association UK, a board member of the Arts, Humanities and Research Council, of MINDS, the Mandela Institute for Development Studies, the International Crisis Group and of Afro Barometer. She was previously Chair of the Royal African Society. An African History of Africa is her first book.

It is a real treat to be able to welcome Dipo Faloyin to join her on stage. He is the author of the bestselling and hugely acclaimed Africa Is Not A Country and senior editor of Vice.

Ticket price includes a glass of wine or a soft drink.
