Description
Jo Hamya returns to Summertown to discuss her new novel The Hypocrite, following her brilliant event for her previous novel Three Rooms. The Hypocrite is a wickedly funny and tense account of a hot afternoon at the theatre, told from the perspective of a novelist father and his daughter. As the curtains rise on her first play, he realises it’s about him, his novels, and a summer holiday ten years earlier that fractured their relationship…
Tickets are £5 including a glass of wine or soft drink.
Sharp, witty and astute about parents and children, but never cruel; I enjoyed it hugely
David Nicholls, author of One Day
An acid chamber piece that skewers the father, mother and daughter at its heart without denying them their messy, affecting humanity. Tense, painful and funny – I loved it
Chris Power, author of A Lonely Man
