Natasha Brown and Saba Sams in conversation with Suzi Feay

Universality & Gunk

Wednesday 7th May 2025 at 7:00pm

Daunt Books Marylebone

Tickets £10.00

Description

Natasha Brown and Saba Sams are two of the most exciting new voices in contemporary literature, so we are thrilled to have them here for a joint event discussing their brilliant new novels.

Natasha Brown’s debut novel Assembly was shortlisted for several awards including the Folio Prize, the Goldsmiths Prize and the Orwell Prize for Fiction. She was named one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists in 2023 and one of the Observer’s Best Debut Novelists in 2021.

Her latest novel Universality is a blistering second novel. A twisty, slippery descent into the rhetoric of truth and power, it follows a journalist’s exposé of a brutal attack on a Yorkshire farm which raises far more questions than it answers. Through a voyeuristic lens, it focuses on words: what we say, how we say it, and what we really mean.

Saba Sams’s debut collection of short stories Send Nudes was published in 2022 to instant acclaim and won the Edge Hill Prize. Gunk is her debut novel – an electrifying novel exploring love and desire, chaos and control – and family in all its forms.

Both novels explore power dynamics, truth and the slipperiness of language, and here to help tease out more connections in these startling works is Suzi Feay. Suzi is a literary journalist writing regularly for The Guardian and The Financial Times, among others.

Ticket price includes a glass of wine or a soft drink.
