We welcome Max Porter for a dramatic reading from Lanny, his strange and wonderful story about a village peopled by the living and the dead and about Lanny, a boy with a gift for friendship who leaves traces of enchantment in the closely woven lives around him. Lanny was longlisted for the Booker prize and is soon to be a film starring and produced by Rachel Weisz. It follows Max’s acclaimed 2015 debut, Grief is the Thing with Feathers.
‘It’s hard to express how much I loved Lanny. Books this good don’t come along very often’ Maggie O’Farrell
Herefordshire folk duo Alula Down will accompany the performance with a specially commissioned score – their work is an experiment in folk song and minimalism using voice, and instruments made of wood and reeds.
