Rosemary Sutcliff's Sun Horse, Moon Horse

Tuesday 10th June 2025 at 7:00pm

Daunt Books Summertown

Tickets £5.00

Description

A special event celebrating a reissued 1977 novel about Oxfordshire’s Uffington White Horse by the late great children’s author Rosemary Sutcliff. Editor & critic Lucy Scholes and author & illustrator Tiffany Francis-Baker join us to discuss Sun Horse, Moon Horse in conversation on Tuesday 10th June. Tickets are £5 including a glass of wine or soft drink.

Most of the White Horses on English hillsides have only been there for a few centuries; the White Horse of Uffington belongs to a much older world. Nobody knows for sure how long ago it was made. Sutcliff was drawn to this mystery, and Sun Horse, Moon Horse was her response. This historical novel is a captivating tale of courage, destiny and the enduring power of art, set against the ancient hills of Iron Age Britain, published in a beautiful new edition and featuring illustrations by Isabel Greenberg and a new introduction from Tiffany Francis-Baker. Rosemary Sutcliff CBE (1920-1992) is the author of over fifty novels, for children and young adults, including The Eagle of the Ninth.
