We are so excited that best selling children’s author and bona fide national treasure Lauren Child will be joining us at the festival to tell us about her new novel Clarice Bean: Smile. Lauren is celebrating 25 years since she introduced us to her fabulous creation Clarice Bean. Now loved by children and adults all around the world, Clarice is a character who has always felt relevant and accessible – no more so than in this new novel that addresses the fears that so many children now hold about the environment and the future of the planet.
Told with her trademark quirky humour, Smile is in part inspired by Lauren’s own feeling of being overwhelmed and anxious about climate change, and hearing so many’s children’s worries. She found it helpful to look at things through another’s eyes – Clarice’s optimistic, can-do eyes, which see the wonder of the natural world around her and the good that even small actions do in the face of an enormous challenge.
As this is primarily a children’s’ event, we just ask that you buy a ticket for each child attending. There will, as ever at the festival, be a drink and some biscuits too!
