Description

We’re excited to welcome Kate Davies, Polari Prize-winning author of In at the Deep End, for a conversation about her very funny and deeply moving new novel, Nuclear Family.

When Lena buys DNA testing kits for her father and twin sister, she thinks they’ll enjoy finding out where their ancestors come from, and what percentage Neanderthal they are. She has no idea the gift will blow her family apart.

Their dad is forced to admit that he isn’t their biological father: he and his late wife used a sperm donor. Lena’s sister, Alison, thinks DNA doesn’t matter: he’s their dad, and that’s that. Plus, she and her wife are trying to start a family using donor sperm, too. But Lena becomes obsessed with tracking down their biological father. And when she discovers she has a half-brother who is an actor, she becomes obsessed with him, too.

Join us for a discussion about identity, donor conception, and what it means to be a family, chaired by Imogen West-Knights, journalist and author of the intimate and emotional Deep Down.
