Description

We are delighted to welcome the brilliant Joseph O’Connor back to Daunt Books to discuss his latest novel, The Ghosts of Rome, the second novel in his current series Rome Escape Line.

The Ghosts of Rome leads on from My Father’s House, taking us now to 1944, six months after the Nazi invasion of Rome where we join an underground group of ‘Escape Line’ activists called ‘The Choir’. Their mission is to smuggle refugees to safety and help Allied soldiers, all under the nose of Gestapo boss Paul Hauptmann. This thrilling book once again cements Joseph O’Connor’s status as one of the finest writers of historical fiction and will keep you gripped until you reach the end.

This is a lucky chance to get your hands on a copy of the book slightly ahead of publication, so don’t miss out!

Joseph O’Connor’s fiction has been published in forty languages. His twenty books include eleven novels, among them the million-selling Star of the Sea, Ghost Light, Shadowplay and My Father’s House, a Washington Post Book of the Year. His books have won and been nominated for multiple prestigious awards, including the Whitbread/Costa, the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction and the Irish Pen Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Peter Kemp has been reviewing fiction for the Sunday Times for more than 40 years and was its Fiction Editor from 1994 to 2010. His most recent book, Retroland (Yale, 2023) is a survey of English fiction from 1970.

Ticket price includes a glass of wine or a soft drink.
