Harriet Baker in conversation with Jo Hamya

Rural Hours

Wednesday 9th April 2025 at 7:00pm

Daunt Books Summertown

Tickets £5.00

Description

Harriet Baker joins us to discuss her book Rural Hours, which tells the story of three very different women – Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Townsend Warner and Rosamond Lehmann – each of whom moved to the countryside and was forever changed by it. Following long periods of creative uncertainty and private disappointment, each woman is invigorated by new landscapes and new homes, embarking on experiments in form, in feeling and in living that would resonate throughout the rest of their lives. Baker recreates these overlooked episodes, revealing how ‘rural hours’ defined the lives of these three pioneering writers. She will be in conversation with Jo Hamya, author of Three Rooms and The Hypocrite.

Tickets £5 including a glass of wine or soft drink.
